About

Writing is writing, no matter the medium

Always the elusive bon mots

This blog is the quirky, prose-heavy and personal side of my writing.

I’m also a licensed paralegal, able to provide legal services within a limited scope of practice in Ontario, Canada.

Law and writing make a good team. Both draw on my strengths: attention to detail, love of language, crafting the most effective message, focused research, unerring observation, and acknowledgment that learning something is never a waste of time.

All the written content at this blog is mine. The writing is original, the research is my own.

If you have some legal writing that needs doing, let me know. I’m available for whatever writing need you have, including legal memos and facta, legal blog content, document drafting, affidavit preparation, or issue-specific legal research.

Examples of my legal writing are available at the magazine I started in April, 2013. Paralegal SCOPE Magazine is the go-to source for all things paralegal in Ontario. It includes Legal Word of the Day, details on legal education, social events, significant decisions, practice management tips and advice from paralegals at all stages of their careers.

Elizabeth…I found your blog researching Hibernaculum for an article I am writing for the Lake Erie Beacon. I used to live in Rondeau, which shares a lot of similarities to your “spit’, being a spit itself, full of wildlife. No offense meant, but you write like I do,full of reminiscence, conversational and personal. It was a pleasure to read. I now live in Windsor and miss my oasis terribly. Take care, and I will continue to read your thoughts.

Elizabeth: I’m assuming you’re my old friend from the Cambridge Reporter. I just discovered your blog and reading it reminded me of what a great writer you are. Your piece about high school in Niagara Falls is wonderful. I notice you haven’t written since August. Are you still active? Brian Cross

      Hi, there!

Yes, this is the once-and-always Elizabeth you knew from The Reporter days (R.I.P.)

I’ve checked my blog just a couple of times since September, so it is quite a coincidence running across your message so quickly.

I’m studying to be a Paralegal, which takes up an incredible amount of my time. It’s a two-year program, condensed to 12 months, Accelerated. It has taken a long time to get in and have funding for it. I’m really enjoying it, overall, and also looking into several career options. I can develop my own practice, for instance.

Homework and reading seem to fill all the time that I used to have for my Blog. That’s one drawback because you can probably tell what a tremendous outlet this is for me. I’m glad you enjoy it.

What about you? Still at the Star? Business/Labour? How are things in Windsor these days? A girl from my class — as far as I can tell, she is one of two 20-somethings worth knowing in this city — is in Detroit this weekend.

      Regards,

      Elizabeth
